Determining the necessity of life-sustaining measures requires an evaluation of whether these measures could potentially improve the patient’s health. If a treatment is effective and has the potential to enhance the patient’s survival rate or quality of life, life-sustaining measures may be considered. Actually, because of my mother, I may had to take decision, so I’m really interested about this. Conversely, in cases where a patient’s condition is incurable or the limits of treatment are clear, continuing life-sustaining measures may be futile. Seeking medical advice and maintaining open communication with the patient and their family are crucial. It’s essential to consider the wishes of both the patient and their family. Clearly establishing intentions regarding medical decisions, including whether the patient wishes to undergo life-sustaining measures, is vital. I’ve come across Advance Care Planning (ACP) as a means to facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers, respecting the patient’s wishes. Family discussions are equally indispensable. Understanding the patient’s desires and values, reaching a common agreement, and safeguarding the patient’s dignity are crucial. The ultimate decision depends on the individual circumstances and desires of the patient. Close communication among the patient, family, and healthcare providers is key to guiding the best possible decisions.
