Hafu　　　luke arai
the word hafu, in japan, to describe someone mix raced they use the word hafu, meaning half. For example I’m half Australian and half Japanese so i would be called a hafu with Australia. Because i grew up with this I’m used to it but when i gave it a little thought i did wonder why they didnt chose the word double or dual as in double nationality or dual nationality. If i hadn’t been brought up with this word used frequently around me and i first hear it once i grow up i would probably think that it is a bit negative. The word hafu is also something that causes bullying, of course there is going to be bullying or racism in schools but by dividing people with a word just makes it so much easier to be targeted, so if this word is a factor of bullying i would rather people stop using this word and call mixed race people whatever they want to be called ( for example for someone that is half American and half Japanese and they prefer to be called Japanese than hafu then call them Japanese, so that this word does not hurt people.
