Today, I discuss about small member plurality system.( Last time, fucus on proportion representive process ‘s good points. )

SMR have good points.

SMR, the ability of regular people can stand for office regardless of the support or party’s insiders. PR is that vorters would be able to vote only for parties. (the closed party list system)

Most PR systems allow voters to cast their votes for individual candidates they prefer. That called “the open list system” It is like House of Councillors election in Japan. It is possible to write a name and parties. Next, the connection between a citizen and a legislator can be deep. PR would dramatically weaken the quality of this representation in Congress like David demonstarate a sililar commitment. IN my opinion, it is meaningless because people’s opinions can be reflected in the SMR system though they have rights and Japan has the good way like regional charge ca be decided in Clean Government Party(Komeito) Nation can make clear representive of their district in SMR.  Lastly, PR can cause confusion. Fringe or extremist parties whose positions are not supported by the majority of the public can make demands for their party members to hold powerful posts within the government and for their policy positions to be adopted like Israel. Disparate parties are not able to find common ground and form a majority coalition because several parties won the election and have different opinions. So, America should pretend to be like Greece. After more than a week of negotiation, no majority coalition could be formed , and new elections were then scheduled for the following month. America doesn’t have this system and so adopt that. But, it’s high costs. Also, some people say that SMR takes lower cost than PR. Actually, they don’t have big differences between them.

Next time, I describe my opinion about this topic!

See you next time!
