This movie is thought as an unique story that one ordinary Korean barber starts to work at the Korean president at a glance, but historical background are hidden.  Although the story focuses on the main character, the owner of city’s barber, the surrounding situations such as 4.19 revolution of Korea or the extraordinary control of the spy have an important role for the shift of his way of thinking.  At first, he had no idea to think about the political matter by himself and he always followed the dominant opinions. For example, as for the election, though he supported the president of Syngman Rhee as the top of the neighborhood association did, he started to overestimate the new president Park Chung-hee and he was afraid that he said rude thing or acted impolitely towards him after he selected as the professional barber of him.  On the contrary, he starts to express his skeptical feelings about the policy of the government after his innocent son was arrested by the opressive way and became disabled with his legs in the heartless treatment.  Just then the government took some monarchical measures like amendment of the Constitution.  I think the change of his behavior results from his notice that unconcern about his light to participate in politics has possibility to make our life harm.  By reading actual historic events used in the movie, audience can catch the implication under the story.
