In today’s IEcore class we watched a movie, “East is East”.

This movie’s theme is about relationship between a person as immigrant and a person as a member of family. Set in England some decades ago, there is a family whom father is Pakistan and he deeply believe in his religion, Islam, but this thing cause a lot of problems among his family. Because wife is English women and his children were born and grew up in England.

The most impressing thing of the story is father dicides his children’s marriage completely. Of course children do not want to get marriage with who never met, in addition the oldest brother was a gay so they refuse to get marriage. That thing cause father’s anger more and more. It is deeply connected with father’s religious problem.The father was growing up in Islamic countury, so he think what he do is the best way to lead his family happy. It is not bad thing but he has no ear to hear his family’s opinion. So children’s defiance become bigger and bigger. But actually, father himself did opposit to his religion; that is he got marriaged with English women. That’s irony of this story.

Through watching this movie I could learn a lot about religious problem and the important thing is to hear other’s opinion.
