Recently, I had a chance to watch Your Name and it was the first time in 6 years. The interesting thing was that my impression of the movie changed from the last time I’ve watched it. One charm that this movie has is that there are many small foreshadowings that you might not notice when watching for the first or second time. In the movie, Taki and Mitsuha who live in different area and time get their souls switched during sleep when they are dreaming. The difficult part is to recognize the time gap and on what day whey were switching. In my personal experience, it’s hard to figure it out the first time, but when you do, you’ll realize how well-crafted the plot is.
Another reason this movie remains to be a legend is that it captures the beautiful and realistic images of Japan. In Taki’s scenes Yotsuya and Shinjuku station area appears which is also very precise to the actual place. It shows us the clean and distinguished atmosphere of Tokyo. Although Mitsuha’s hometown is a fictional place, it is based off of Hida, which is famous for its traditional buildings and culture. This movie shows us the beauty of landscapes in Japan, both the city and the countryside.
