This movie tells the story of an imprisoned woman and her child. A woman is kidnapped by a man when she is in high school and conceives a child in that “room”. The film mainly focuses on the lives of women and children, and is structured in such a way that it is easy to empathize with them. The outside world is not shown until the two of them are released from confinement, and the face of the man who is confined is rarely shown. What particularly struck me was that the child really thought that the room was the whole world. Since children have never been out into the world since they were born, they not only do not know the outside world, they do not even know it exists. I think that the purpose of not showing the outside world until the confinement period is over is to put it in the boy’s point of view. In addition, the man sometimes comes to bring food to the room, but at that time the child is hidden and does not come into direct contact. In that respect as well, I presume that the purpose of not moving the man’s face, as I mentioned earlier, is to put him in the boy’s point of view.
