Any Day Now (Japanese title is Chocolate Doughnuts) is a 2012 American movie. The set of the era is the 70’s in America and there are many prejudices against gays at that time.

Rudy Donatello and Paul Flieger are a Gay couple, and they take care of Rudy’s neighborhood, Marco. He is 14 years old with Down syndrome. The reason why they take Marco to Rudy’s home is that her mother was arrested due to drug use.

Although they got permission from his mother to be guardians, and they sincerely loved Marco, the court system asked about their weird relationship and battled at the court.

Consequently, they needed to return to Marco when her mother came back home. As same as before, she gave up raising Marco, and used drugs, and slept around. In the end, Marco was found dead under a bridge. He might walk around to search for his “real home.”

This movie sadly ended, and it shows the difficulty of the real world. Even if they love Marco, society and its rules do not recognize a family with a gay couple and someone else’s child with a disability because they are a minority. Although prejudices and discriminations to these minority people like LGBTs or any race decrease compared with the ’70s, there are still uncountable numbers of discriminations in the world. I hope everyone can live in their own way. This movie tells us that love does not need anything, but just a true heart.

I like the Japanese title “chocolate doughnuts” because chocolate doughnuts are Marco’s favorite food, and it is the symbol of happiness in the movie.
