I watched “Shoplifters” which was made by Hirokazu Koreeda and awarded the Palme d’Or at the 71st Cannes International Film Festival. The story got an idea from a case that a family receive pension illegally without submitting registration of death. The story is following.

In a downtown Tokyo, a middle-aged man Osamu and a boy Shota came into a supermarket. They aren’t actually a parent and child. They shoplifted commodities with a practiced hand, and went back home. In the way to home, they find a little girl shivering at the porch of a housing complex, so they took her. In their house, an old lady Hatue, a middle-aged Nobuyo, and young woman Aki are waiting for them. All of them are not true family, but live together because of their shared interests. The girl they brought back is Yuri. She was neglected by her parents, so they accepted her. For several months, they live in good terms, but their lives collapse due to the death of Hatue. They buried her body to receive pension. From that time, Shota began to have doubt for their lives. One day, they are found and arrested by police. The family dissolved and Yuri is sent to her parents who neglects her.

This movie shows what is family and what is right. They had spent their time friendly when Hatue died. And also, Yuri went back true home by low, but will she be able to be happy? Those are difficult question, but we can try to think about it. This movie gives us such opportunity.
