Mimi wo sumaseba (Whisper of the Heart), which was directed by Yoshihumi Kondo and made by STUDIO GHIBLI INC., was released in Japan in 1995. It has three noteworthy points. First, they drew most of its background based on scenery of Tama city and Musashino city, Tokyo. Because of nostalgic and attractive scenes in this movie, some people actually visit these cities to enjoy the view of this movie directly. Second, this movie can be classified into romance and focus on two students’ bittersweet experience in youth. Since it depicts love of two junior high school students, this movie probably reminds you of some memories in your youthful days. Finally, the closing theme music Country Road is very distinctive and impressive. It is originally made by American and Yoko Honna translated into Japanese. It fits the calm and peaceful image of this movie. I especially recommend Mimi wo sumaseba to middle-aged people though I want all people to watch it. Because the time of this story is set in when they were students, they can feel nostalgia if they watch it. For that reason, in my opinion, middle-aged people should enjoy this movie at least once.
