Kramer vs. Kramer is a 1979 American drama film based on Avery Corman’s novel and directed by Robert Benton. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning five.

The story is mainly about a divorce between Joanna and Ted, fighting each other for their son Billy’s custody. It starts with Joanna leaving her house, wanting for her self-reliance.

The first shot of the film is the lightning of her wedding ring, which emphasize the main theme of the film.

There are also many films that covers about divorce and custody, but this film is famous because of the equality. In the scene at the court, both Ted and Joanna were not too logical but also, not too emotional. They have their emotions of love to their son, and wanting Billy’s custody. At the same time, they try to understand each others feelings and respect them.

The film also attracts the audience with a family-love between Ted and Billy. There was a scene when Billy and Ted making French toast two times in the film. The first time is the next day morning right after Joanna left. Ted couldn’t cook well and Billy complains about it. The second time is the last morning they could spend with each other. Billy cooperates with Ted to make a perfect French toast. This scene shows that they spend time together and gradually changed their relationships in a good way.
