This is a British musical drama film 2014, and written and directed by Stuart Murdoch, he is a leader of a band “Belle and Sebastian”. It was preceded by a music album of “God Help the Girl” released in 2009. It premiered in-competition in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Because he is a musician, the music used in this movie is good. People who like the music of Belle and Sebastian must like the music in this movie. I think this is the most important point for a musical movie. The characters and mood are matched with music.

This movie is taken by 16mm film, and the color is pale, but vivid. So it is like 60’s movie.

The 60’s costumes are also matched with the characters, and many mid-shots are used, so we can see both clothes and faces. Some long shot are used to show someone dancing with music.

However, the movie is made for the music totally. There’s no clear storyline. So I felt 1hour 52minutes was too long. It was the first time for Stuart Murdoch to make a movie, not music video.
