Hello!

The movie I am going to introduce is “Saving Private Ryan”.

It is an American movie published in 1988 set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II directed by Steven Spielburg.

This film was chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”, and Steven Spielburg won his 2nd Academy Award for Best Director.

The story is about U.S. soldiers going into enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose 4 brothers has been killed by the foe.

This film is famous for the imaging technique and the intensity of the first 27 minutes which is a depiction of  Omaha Beach assault of June 6, 1944. Out of the 11 awards which it won in the Academy was about filming and editing techniques.

It used 40 barrels of fake blood (which is about4800 liters) and used real explosion and gun firing sounds. It also used 20-30 handicapped acters to film scenes that blows off arms and legs. Now I think you can imagine how devastating the scenary would be.

There are 8 soldiers in the special troop composed for saving Ryan and each one has a distinct and interesting characteristic.

The reaction of each character to the harsh reality gives more depth to the movie.

My favorite is Daniel Jackson who is also a private and a talented sniper. He is cool, steady, manly and simply beutiful!

This is Timothy E. Upham and is a key person of this story. He was in charge of making maps and processing information, but he was all of a sudden chosen as a member of the special troop as a translater. He has never been in a battlefield and had never killed anybody, but he takes part in the most dangerous mission within the troop.

His feeling is very close to ours which are fearing death and murder. It is very interesting what kind of role he plays in the troop and how he gradually changed.

The first few minutes are seriously dreadful, but if you make it through, it is truely a impressing movie and you may get to feel the passion and faith the soldiers who participated in this war had in them.

When we saw the part of this movie at class, my body trembled. Those camera angles are perfect I think.
