Hello, everyone. I want to introduce an impressive movie, “Birdman”.

This story is about Riggan Thomson, an actor who played the famous and iconic superhero, “Birdman” over 20 years ago who is struggling to direct his drama debut on Broadway. Throughout the film, Riggan battles the voice of Birdman to make sure that he can pull of his play despite many troubles happening in his preview show. At last, Riggan gives the most impressive show no one can forget to become relevant again.

The most impressive point in this film is the length of shots. Every shot is pretty long, about 2 minutes. This is a big impact. However, I didn’t think these shots are long because the camera almost always follows the actors. Also the camera is always moving even slightly, so I could feel an atmosphere of tenseness especially when the actors are busy and walking fast. The camera takes shots from many different angles when Riggan is flying in his dream. The camera follows him from many angles and the shot is long, therefore, I can feel if I was flying. In the last scene, Riggan seems to commit suicide, but we cannot tell if he really dies. It is possible to imagine only from his daughter’s point of view, though she is looking at the sky or somewhere higher. It is mysterious.

Also, we can see the sarcasm for Hollywood. Riggan is suffering from the burden of the cast, time and expense to make a drama to debut on Broadway from the beginning to the end. I think it means the costs for actors and equipment are big and takes time to make Hollywood products.

Finally, the music used in this film is centralized on drums. It makes me imagine American jazz and fits this movie. The music played during his dream is kind of like orchestra music and I think the music expresses his mind released by his anxiety and fear.
