Sexual Harassment towards Flight Attendants

Recently, ANA’s use of a pin-up girl as a flight attendant for advertisements has been controversial. It is because pin-up girls are close to the sex industry, and I think that they shouldn’t use them for advertisements of flight attendants who are often victims of sexual harassment.

According to a national survey, “nearly 5000 flight attendants in the USA found over 85% of all respondents had dealt with unruly passengers as air travel picked-up in 2021″. In addition, one in every five cabin attendants had reported experiencing sexual misconduct”. In the aviation industry, companies have been really strict about sexual harassment. Still, there are some challenges onboard airplanes. One is that flight attendants can’t call 911 at 30,000 feet. The other one is that Most of them are mainly not trained to deal with sexual harassment or assault. The last one is that even though she is responsible for the safety of the passengers on board, she finds herself at risk when she is a victim of sexual harassment. In order to solve this situation, I think aviation companies should ban passengers who are sexually harassed by airlines. Those who sexually harass tend to think that they are allowed to do that or say something sexual and it’s no problem to do, say so. That’s why there needs more severe penalties and legal consequences.
