The National Cancer Center has published a report on cervical cancer, which said that around 11,000 people in Japan every year are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and about 3,000 die from the disease annually.
The HPV vaccine became a routine supported by public funds for Japanese girls aged 12 to 16 in April 2013. However, following HPV vaccination, many cases of physical conditions such as persistent pain and movement disorders were broadcast. The media widely reported these cases as terrible reactions to vaccination.
These coverages left a significant impression on public viewers, especially parents who had daughters aged 12 to 16. After that, the Japanese government canceled the active vaccination of HPV.
I think this trend will result in a rise in the deaths who missed the HPV vaccination at an early age. Actually, it is said that intense side effects reported by the media had nothing to do with the HPV vaccine. For both sides, the media and the information receivers need to be careful about conveying and getting information. As for the media, they must not judge by just looking at the surface of events, and for receivers, we have to make sure that the information we get is true or based on a scientific fact.
