Lost Emotion (Movie)

This movie is one of my favorites.

In the near future, 99.6% of the people have been destroyed by a world war. On the brink of extinction, humanity has created a genetically engineered community of emotionless humans called “Equals”. The people living there are monitored by the Health and Safety Department, and if they develop emotions such as love or lust, they are sent to an isolation facility and euthanized. Silas and Nia, who have “developed” emotions in such an environment, decide to escape to the outside world.

I like this film for two main reasons: the camera work and the setting of the story.

The camera work often focuses on what the movie wants to draw attention to and blurs the surroundings, which makes it easier to concentrate on the film. Also, the camera work often uses angles similar to the human eye to depict the main character largely in the foreground and what the main character is looking at in the background. Thus, the film makes great use of perspective and manipulates the viewer’s place of looking by focusing.

The setting was interesting in that humans have no emotions. The contrast between the people in the film not feeling anything while the viewers are being shaken with emotion is interesting. The second half of the film was a Romeo and Juliet style romance play with a dash of suspense.
