Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best mangas in the 21 century. It has been turned into anime and a live-action movie.  According to Cambridge Dictionary, Ghoul means an evil spirit that eats dead bodies. As the word means, in the manga, ghouls live solely on eating humans and has more of physical strength. But except that, they are the same as humans: they have feelings.

The main character is Kaneki Ken. He is just a college student who likes reading but one day he gets into a fatal accident. After a successful operation, he manages to survive only to find he turns into a ghoul. So he is forced to live with ghouls under threat of being destroyed by special task force called 喰種捜査官.

The plot is profound and the drawing is exceptional. There are many attractive characters and each character is stuck and faces their own crisis. I’m sure by the time you finish the volume one, you will be completely hooked.

By the way, the campus of 上井大学, which the main character goes to, is probably modeled on the Aoyama campus. It’s kinda exciting to imagine the main character leading a university life on the campus we’re familiar with, isn’t it?
