YouTube is getting stricter and stricter

YouTube is the most gigantic video-sharing platform in the world. Nowadays many people including young kids are watching videos on YouTube, making new policies to protect them from inappropriate content. Videos containing kids content or uploaded for kids are attached to limited ads and the comment section is disabled because of safety for children, according to YouTube. Many people earn money by posting videos with ads on YouTube, leaving them high and dry because of the new policy.

I think that it is important to protect children from inappropriate videos containing violence, sexual and radical ideology, which can have an adverse impact on their minds. Too strict policy, however, can negatively affect those who make a living by posting videos on YouTube. Since there are myriad of videos on the platform, YouTube uses an algorithm to judge whether they contain inappropriate content, which results in causing trouble. For instance, an eminent Japanse game streamer declared to retire his career on YouTube because he consistently got demonetized even though his videos’ content was not violent and sexual at all. At the end of the day, he started over posting videos because YouTube allowed him to attach ads after his protesting against the policy. Moreover, if people say a swear word in a video, the video gets demonetized. As a matter of fact, many gamers are afraid of being demonetized by reacting with swear words. While I used to hear a lot of f-words in a game streaming video, these days I can hear “YouTube, don’t demonetize me!” or beep sound to conceal swear words all the time.

Recently, YouTube is restricting its users too much and I think it will lower the creativity of YouTubers because they become more consercative when creating videos.

It became natural for our generation to watch YouTube everyday, because it has taken a role of our main media instead of other media, however, we should be careful of choosing what to watch and what to show.
