“Roman Holiday” is a 1953 American romantic comedy film directed by William Wyler. Audrey Hepburn, who played the royal princess in the film won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. It is still broadcasted on TVs in many countries including Japan.

The film was shown long before I was born, but even though I haven’t seen it before, I knew some of the famous scenes of this film. Eating gelato at Spanish Steps, putting hands into the Mouth of Truth, riding scooters and chased by a police, and so on.

The story is mainly about royal princess Ann, having a date with American Reporter, Joe Bradley just for one day.

Many techniques are used in the films in order to entertain the audience. It mainly depicts the events of a single day and the film itself was not so long, which avoids the audience to get bored. Moreover, there weren’t any unnecessary scenes that disturbs people’s mind. It draws royal princess’s love, adventurous spirit, surprise, emotional conflict as a queen with a lot of entertainments.

She is beautiful, rich and could have anything she wanted, but the last scene indicates that she couldn’t get the thing she really wanted to have. This made the audience feel sad but also gives them hope.
