recently, I really wanna go to southeast Asia bacause local foods in this area are so deliciouse that many people visit there and enjoy their trip to southeast Asia. And especially, in singapore, Merlion is very famous as an symbol of Singapore in the world. the upper part of this statue is lion and the lower half of it is like fish. It is made with concrete and ride on the pedestal of wave. It spouts out water from the mouse.
Why is it called Merlion?
In 11 century, when the king of Malaysia made a voyage, the sea had been rough. So, he was thrown crown away to the sea and then the sea became quiet and he could get to an island. Then, one lion turned up and he tell the king a try to unify the island and he left. So, the head of this statue describes that lion.
And, the tail of this statue is symbol of ancient city, temathec. The king made the island’s name which means “Singa Pura”. Singa pura means the city of Lion. Therefore, Singapore means Lion’s city.
is it interesting?
