Movie “アルキメデスの大戦(The Great War of Archimedes)” is a war film published in 2019, and now delivered on Netflix. Even though it is a war film, scene of attacking is less than 2 minutes. Most of the scene are conversation.

The story is about 1933 when World War II was about happening. For the attack coming, Japan was about to built one of the largest battleship. 山本五十六(Isoroku Yamamoto) who opposed the idea hire a genius “櫂直 (Tadashi Kai)” to points out the imperfection of the idea.  Main character of this film is the genius “櫂直 (Tadashi Kai)” who studied mathematics in Tokyo University, the top university in Japan joins the navy to check the layout of a battleship.

A point of this film is not a story, it is a rhythm. (Here are some spoiling.) At the end, the idea successfully “櫂直 (Tadashi Kai)” and “山本五十六(Isoroku Yamamoto)” opposed in the film becomes true as the battleship “Yamato”. Because this film is mixed with real story, some people who knew history could realize how story ends. Especially, very first scene of this film is the battleship Yamato sinking in the ocean.

Everything is non-fiction expects the part of “櫂直 (Tadashi Kai)”. So how “櫂直 (Tadashi Kai)” thinks and speaks is that key element of the film. And it has good rhythm.

Even though you knew the story, this film is enjoyable. I would recommend everyone to watch this.
