Drunk driving

- Today I am going to talk about a video that I watched before.
- The video was about a teenage girl named Jackie who went to America to study English and literally burned alive during a horrific accident. And a young man was responsible for doing it to her and now in prison.
- The day the accident happened, he had gone out to a friend’s house and got really drunk. But still he wanted to have fun so he went to another party late at night.
- At the time he wasn’t paying attention to how much he was drinking.
- The same night, Jackie was excited about going to a birthday party. After the party she accepted the ride home from a young woman who lived near her dormitory.
- 4 o’clock in the morning the car that a young man was driving hit the car Jackie was riding in. Two girls in Jackie’s car got killed instantly. She was helpless as flames engulfed her face and body. Even though he called the ambulance and police immediately, the police officer who arrived there thought “God just please take her and let her stop suffering” as he was hearing her scream from the inside of the burning car.
- Her hair, skin and face melted away. But the helicopter took her to a hospital with third-degree burns covering 60% of her body.
- On the other hand, a test showed that the young man’s blood-alcohol was over the legal limit. He was sentenced to seven years in prison for drunk driving and ending up killing girls who were riding in the same car as Jackie.
- Meanwhile, she woke up in the hospital, blind and hallucinating. But she had been unconscious for ten months. And even though she survived miraculously, she had to go through many surgeries to rebuild her badly burned face and body. She endured 50 surgeries and there’re many more to come. She described that she looked like a monster after the surgery of her eyes.
- And even now she can’t live without her father’s support at all.
- It’s just devastating to think that just one decision you made can change your life the exact opposite. This story taught me how terrifying drunk driving is.
- But the most surprising part of the video was that she said she forgave him for almost killing her and completely changing her life. If I were her, I couldn’t do the same thing. It’s just sad that she, who is wonderful and so kind, has to face these difficulties.
