We watched the movie, “Requiem for American Dream” in the class on 30th, September.

I know Noam Chomsky, because he was introduced only as a linguist in the class of Introduction to English Education, so this time I learned his thought of economics for the first time. Of his 10 principles he stated, I’m interested in the statement about education.

school-and-money

He said thet “education is treasure”. This means that the states or people that give money to public education will enjoy blessing of them. Though this idea was  common in the USA in 1950s, now the idea has come to be noticiable that people not having children don’t have to pay tax to education. Chomsky refered to this reason. It is that ties of community are being weaker.

However, now also in Japan, solidarity of community are weaker. That is, Japan is likely to fall in the condition of the USA. Probably, Japan may have already become like that. What is important in order to prevent the condition from prevailing? I think that students like us, who will have to pay tax a few years later, continue to pay tax steadily with the consideration not only for the present children but also for children in the future.
