Eternal Zero is a Japanese war movie based on the novel by Keisuke Ito, released in 2013.
The story is set in Japan during the Pacific War. The main character is Shigeyoshi Tanii, a legendary soldier and a good general known as an ace pilot of the Zero fighter plane. Tanii is a part of a suicide squadron, but remains faithful to his beliefs.
Tani’s wife, on the other hand, prays for Tani’s safety, but suffers the reality of war.
The story follows Tani’s exploits on the battlefield, his bond with his family, and his final suicide mission. The film sheds light on the emotional yet harsh realities of war and explores themes of family, love, and sacrifice.
When I saw this movie for the first time, I cried a lot. It made me think about how stupid war is and how cruel the Kamikaze pilots were. It is not a matter of course that we are alive today. Our predecessors risked their lives to create a peaceful Japan. This movie makes me thankful every day that I am alive.
