Hello, I’m Momoko. Some weeks ago, we watched a movie, “East Is east,” in IE Core class. I’ll write what I think through the movie.

The story takes place in Britain and the main children are of mixed parentage, their mother being a British person and their father being a Pakistani. The children are suffer from their identities.

At first, I was shocked at their father. I thought he was too selfish, short-tempered and aggressive. He forces his children to live as Pakistanis. On the other hand, most his children, except a boy, were born in Britain and they live as Britain people, going club, wearing miniskirt and eating pork. I wondered why he doesn’t accept the way of their lives. However, at last, I found that he only wishes his children’s happiness. Then suddenly I felt sad. His kindness doesn’t reach their heart because of his aggressiveness and their prejudice. Differences of races and religions are more serious than I had ever thought, but I wish all people could choose their own ways.

In this story, I like their mother the best. She insists her opinion magnificently and tries to understand both her husband’s and her children’s feelings. I want to be a person who can be considerate of others in various and different situation like her.

I thought and realized many things during the movie. I recommend this movie.
