Okja

“Okja” (2017) is the heartwarming story of Mija, a girl who raises a genetically modified “super pig,” named Okja. They live a peaceful life in the mountain of South Korea with Mija’s grandfather. They understand each other even though they are different species.

But, one day, Mija’s grandfather told that he is in the competition in raising a great pig, and she had to separate with Okja because he is for food. Okja is taken away by the company which holds the competition.
Then, she goes to the company and takes any risk to save his life. Of course, there are some difficulties, but she rescued him in the end with ALF (Animal Liberation Frontier).
As an animal rights activist, I was so impressed with the activism of ALF. I felt like encouraged to take action however hard it seems to be. However, I could not understand the purpose of the movie clearly. This is because they rescued Okja alone, and other pigs are killed usually. I suppose it needs clearer message. Although some animal rights activists recommend this movie, I do not in order to consider animal rights.
