Have you ever visited any prefectures in Tohoku? There are a lot of attractive points. My family likes traveling very much and I choose Tohoku as the best area which I strongly recommend you to visit in Summer. Regional attractions take a variety of forms. In Tohoku, I love Summer Festival which is held in each prefecture. I’d like to describe some of them.

The first one is Kanto Festival in Akita. The festival began more than 270 years ago in the Kanto Festivalfestival middle passage of the Edo period. People at that time wished for no disease and evil spirits, and a bountiful harvest by controlling the pole with performers’ bodies freely. The most unique point is that each performer transfers the pole to the forehead, the palm, the shoulder, and the waist.

The second one is Hanagasa Festival in Fukushima. It became famous when it was introduced as one of Japanese folk arts at the Osaka World Expo. The theme song, Yamagata Ondo has its roots in the work songs used to cement the foundations for the constructions of dykes. On hanagasa, there are designs of Benibana, and dancers move back and forth with hanagasa.

There are other various festivals I’ve visited such as Nebuta Festival in Aomori, Tanabata Festival in Miyagi, and Sansa Festival in Iwate. I watched them during a tour, and all of them were amazing! Unfortunately, I haven’t visited the Waragi Festival in Fukushima, so I want to visit someday. It is no exaggeration that Festivals in Tohoku are the symbol of Japanese traditional cultures that were preserved by local people in the original form. If you have a chance to travel to Tohoku in the summer, please watch them!
